As it does each year during the holiday break, the Jordan-Elbridge girls volleyball team hosts a tournament, welcoming Hannibal, Port Byron and Weedsport to the Eagles’ gym on Tuesday afternoon.
Once it dispatched of Weedsport and Port Byron, J-E met Hannibal in the championship match and would prevail in three sets.
The Eagles won a closely-fought opener 25-21, followed it up with a 25-12 romp in the second set and squeezed past Hannibal 25-22 in the third set to finish it off.
Katie Byrnes, named tournament MVP, had six kills, two aces and three digs. Rachael Hulbert also had six kills as Jenna Ashby contributed five kills and nine digs. Emma Coomey got five kills, too, as Olivia Simmons earned seven aces and six assists. Samantha Ryan contributed eight digs.
Port Byron beat Weedsport 25-19, 27-25, 25-21 in the third-place match. Simmons and Coomey joined Byrnes on the All-Tournament team, as did Hannibal teammates Liz Sullivan and Sierra Ingerson, plus Port Byron’s Kaylee Quanbeck and Weedsport’s Taylor Lukins.
J-E would have a rematch with Hannibal on Tuesday night before returning home Friday to face Cato-Meridian.
