Both of the Bishop Ludden basketball teams had little trouble maintaining perfect marks within the OHSL Liberty division.
In fact, the girls Gaelic Knights were 4-0 following last Tuesday’s game at Homer, where it put together another fine offensive performance in a 63-32 rout of the Trojans.
Pushing the tempo from the start, Ludden enjoyed a 22-10 lead through one period and were up 41-17 by halftime, made more effective by the balance shown within the attack.
Kayla Kibling led with 16 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, while Lauren Roy (12 points) and Natalie Barletta (11 points) also reached double figures. Nicole Granteed gained eight points and reserve Emily Morrell added seven points. Each of the nine Gaelic Knights players that saw action got at least one point.
Meanwhile, back home in Geddes, the Ludden boys team followed up its rout of Cazenovia by threatening to go into triple digits against Homer on its way to bashing the Trojans 90-44.
Not wasting any time, Ludden bolted out to a 22-7 lead through one period and maintained that tempo. During the third quarter, it managed to outscore Homer 27-11, which allowed for lots of playing time for the reserves in the late going.
Dan Kaigler led with 19 points and nine rebounds, while fellow sophomore Ben Hackett had 18 points, adding seven assists.
Freshman Zach Harding gained a career-best 12 points as Cameron Littlejohn, with 11 points, also hit double figures, while Antoine Montgomery (nine points) and Zach Walser (eight points) came close. Kyle Hawk contributed six points.
Both of Solvay’s teams lost on Tuesday to Skaneateles. In the boys Bearcats’ 60-41 defeat, it was close until the second quarter, when the Lakers used a 20-8 outburst to build most of its cushion.
Eric Kendrick led Solvay with 14 points, while John Savo contributed seven points. Skaneateles saw Jimmy Atkinson and Brandon Barron lead the way with 13 points apiece.
The Solvay girls lost at home to Skaneateles 57-19, never able to get its offense going as it got shut out during the entire third quarter. Abbey Jones, with 10 points, had more than half the Bearcats’ total as the Lakers’ Jackie Leslie, with 19 points, matched Solvay by herself.
Bishop Ludden hosts its annual Rosemary Corcoran Holiday Classic on Dec. 27-28. In the first round, the Gaelic Knights face Onondaga after defending Section III Class C champion Syracuse Academy of Science meets Rochester-area power Bishop Kearney.
All this would follow a game at 3 p.m. where the Ludden girls team takes on Fayetteville-Manlius, a traditional Class AA power off to a 4-1 start.
