Councilors unanimously approved the commencement of the application process for the 2012 chemical treatment of Cazenovia Lake, at the Dec. 12 meeting of the Cazenovia Town Board.
The board also determined the treatment would be a Type I Action under the State Environmental Quality Review, and further evaluations of the process will be to be completed. Councilors declared the town of Cazenovia as the lead agency, and approved an initial payment of $1,500 to Allied Biological, a lake management company.
The board will examine an Environmental Assessment Form at their Jan. 9 meeting.
In other board news:
— The Dec. 12 meeting was Councilor Donald “Sparky” Christakos’ last meeting as a board member. His seat will be occupied by Liz Moran at upcoming meetings.
— The board unanimously approved the authorization of Town Court to share services with the Village of Cazenovia. If the Town Justices decide to move their proceedings to the Municipal Building in 2012, Cazenovia Town Court is expected to be held at 5 p.m. Wednesdays.
— The town board approved the preorder of a 2013 Western snow plow, for the amount of $130,000. The truck is valued at $215,000 however trading in the town’s 2007 truck will yield $85,000 in savings.
— Highway Superintendent Tim Hunt reported that due to the unseasonable lack of snowfall, the town’s snow budget was in good standing. Compared to last year, the highway department has made 24 fewer trips to plow, salt and sand the roads.
— Councilors discussed the possibilty of having students from Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management construct a survey in mid-Februrary for lake residents, to see what the general attitude is toward the proposed vacuum sewer district.
