Two wind turbines and solar panels are being planned at the water treatment plant on Gere Lock Road in Camillus.
The two six-foot wide turbines and solar array would be built on top of the water treatment plant by Honeywell as part of the Onondaga Lake remediation project.
Engineers from O’Brien and Gere are requesting a special use permit for the turbines and solar panels. The turbines, which are produced for low-impact sound, would be mounted to the top of the building. The photovoltaic solar panels are 50 to 60 feet wide and about 140 feet long. Both projects would be mounted atop the building to provide green energy for the building. Representatives for Honeywell said the turbines and panels would be an example of environmentally-friendly, sustainable solutions.
According to planning board minutes, there is only a small section of road from which travelers on Interstate-690 would be able to see either project.
