For the first time this winter, the Baldwinsville indoor track and field teams got to line up in a new venue – Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena.
Opened earlier this month, the arena will serve as the new home for Section III indoor meets, which were held at Manley Field House before it was turned into Syracuse University’s football practice facility.
First up for the Bees was Wednesday night’s Jack Morse Relays. B’ville’s boys were 11th with 10.7 points, while the girls had seven points for 15th place. Cicero-North Syracuse won both sides.
Most of B’ville’s boys points were attained in the sprint medley relay. Andy Fleming, Jeff Mahar, Nate Wicks and Alec Peinkofer finished in 3:44.71, topped only by Liverpool, who won the race in 3:44 flat.
Jack Martin, Josh Perez, Sean Maar and Matt Pond combined for sixth place in the distance medley relay in 11:35.85. Dan Walker, Ethan Plouffe, Austin McAskill and Joe Stanard matched that finish in the 4×200 relay in 1:44.36. Harrison Warner tied for fifth (5 feet 7 inches) in the high jump. McAlister and Maar were eighth in the triple jump.
On the girls end, Cierra Allen, Gina Carnovale, Stephanie Vasteno and Mackenzie Ross posted a time of 4:33.70 for third place in the 1,600 sprint medley. Emily Soeder cleared 4 feet 8 inches in the high jump, tying for sixth place, while Lauren Schmidt and Ashley Pasano were sixth (53 feet 4 ¾ inches) in the triple jump.
B’ville also was seventh in the 4×800 relay as Emily McComb, Hannah Olds, Dana Mitchell and Emily Thompson won its heat in 11:26.18. The Bees were eighth in the distance medley relay (14:16.62) and ninth in the 4×400 relay in 4:42.29 as it returns to SRC Arena next Wednesday for the John Arcaro Memorial.
