Without any serious drama, the Skaneateles girls volleyball team lay claim to a Section III championship banner for the third season in a row.
In each of the last two cases, the Lakers pulled this off by toppling its namesakes from Cazenovia, which happened again Friday at Cicero-North Syracuse as Skaneateles prevailed in three sets.
They were in the same venue (CNS), against the same opponent it had beaten in the 2010 final, and got the same result, advancing to this Thursday’s regional final, also at CNS, against the Section V qualifier, LeRoy or Waterloo.
In the first set, Skaneateles took quick control, winning 25-15, but it proved even better in the second set, ripping through Cazenovia 25-6 to move closer to the title.
Finally, Cazenovia settled in during the third set, and nearly extended the match – but by a 25-23 margin, Skaneateles finished it off.
Up front, Joanna Dean produced 13 kills, while her fellow co-captain, Julianna Augustine, managed nine kills. As usual, Colleen Cargile and Sidney Lawson handled the back-line duties, while Amber Robinson led Cazenovia with 10 assists and 10 digs.
