Callahan, Flanagan & Smith yesterday held a grand opening for its new location at 404 E. Genesee St, in the heart of Fayetteville. The orthodontics practice moved from the village’s 300 S. Manlius St. in mid-October, where it had been for more than 50 years.
Tom Flanagan, one of the practice’s four orthodontists, said the new space brings the orthodontics practice and business office, which had been in separate buildings, together for better continuity, and offers much improved parking to patients. The Fayetteville office currently has about 1,000 patients, Flanagan said.
“In the old office we had to arrange the practice to fit into the old house, but we were able to design our new office so we could have maximum patient comfort, excellent flow and a much more efficient way of doing things,” Flanagan said. “And that just gave the patient a much better experience.”
Fayetteville Mayor Mark Olson said he was pleased to see the practice stay in the area.
“We think it’s great because it’s an advanced service already … and now they’ve alleviated their parking issues, they’ve alleviated their space issues, and they stayed in Fayetteville,” he said. “And that’s what so special. They could have gone anywhere, and they chose to stay [here].”
The site of the newly renovated office was most recently home to Wild Birds Unlimited. Olson fondly remembers when the location hosted Home Fair, the hardware store of his father, Eric.
The former offices of Callahan, Flanagan & Smith on South Manlius Street have been purchased by Advocates Incorporated, a non-profit legal agency that serves families of children with developmental, physical and emotional disabilities. The agency plans to start renovations next month.
“It’s truly a win-win,” Olson said.
