Though it did find its way into the Section III Class B playoffs with a 5-9-2 record, the Skaneateles girls soccer team did not stay there for long.
As the no. 13 seed, the Lakers visited no. 4 seed Clinton for last Tuesday night’s opening round, and though it did have some production in the late going, it could not overcome a tough start and lost to the Warriors 4-2.
Perhaps the long bus ride had an effect in the early going, as Skaneateles found itself in a defensive mode. Clinton attacked and, led by Hannah McHarris, found itself ahead 2-0 at the break.
In the late going, the Lakers fought back. Bridget Field and Katie Baldwin both put in goals, but the Warriors matched that production to stay out in front.
McHarris, with a goal and two assists, led a well-balanced attack where Hannah Shankman, Caroline Smiegal and Kristin Callidonna also scored. Mary Buck returned from injury, sharing duties in goal with Rachel Hurley as the pair combined for 20 saves.
