Post-season activity for the West Genesee cross country teams commenced with the CNY Counties League American division championship meets, both staged Wednesday afternoon at Central Square.
As expected, the Wildcats were second in both races behind Fayetteville-Manlius, merely a week after head-to-head meets with the Hornets in Camillus.
F-M had 21 points to WG’s 46 in the boys race, where Martin Leff, with a fifth-place time of 17 minutes, 27 seconds, finished behind a quartet of Hornets, Conor Farrell winning in 17:03.
Nate Conroy worked his way to seventh place, in 18:06, while Ethan Osborne was ninth in 18:13. Mike Lannon was 12th, in 18:26, just ahead of Mark Reilly (18:30) in 13th place, while Tim Sprague was 14th in 18:32.
On the girls side, Laura Leff sat out this contest, and F-M earned each of the top seven finishing positions, Hannah Smith prevailing in 19:01, before the Wildcats’ Lindsey Weaver worked her way to eighth place in 20:42.
Behind her, Abby Kastick had a solid showing, with 10th place in 21:16. Amy Hannahan got 12th place in 22:04, just ahead of Kelly Powell (22:15) in 13th and Mary McGlynn (22:17 in 14th place. Lauren Brieant was 15th in 22:37. Elise Dunshee had an 18th-place clocking of 23:04.
