All is now in place for the West Genesee girls swim team as it goes to Baldwinsville next Tuesday for a clash of unbeaten sides that will determine the CNY Counties League regular-season championship.
The final hurdle to this showdown was cleared Wednesday, on both sides. Just as B’ville was toppling Cicero-North Syracuse 100-81 at LeMoyne College, the Wildcats were at home, putting together a 97-83 victory over Liverpool.
Olivia Castro set the pace for WG with a pair of individual titles. Castro nearly broke the two-minute mark in the 200 freestyle, winning in 2:00.63, and later recorded a top time of 54.86 seconds in the 100 freestyle.
Kim Pedrotti earned first place in the 200 individual medley in 2:23.20, this after helping Shannon Cahalan, Sinead Guy and Brianna Smith rip to a victory in the 200 medley relay in 1:59.90.
Abby Uczen again excelled on the diving board, earning 207.1 points. Cahalan needed 1:06.80 to claim first in the 100 butterfly. Paige Donegan took the 100 backstroke in 1:09.39, while Sarah Yagan claimed the 500 freestyle in 5:57.27.
B’ville, meanwhile, was handling CNS behind two titles from Charis Parker, who took the 200 IM in 2:25.43 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.23, and helped the 200 medley (2:01.92), and 200 freestyle (1:49.68) relay teams prevail, too.
WG still had a Friday non-league meet against New Hartford, though, and despite a second meetin 48 hours, the Wildcats maintained a high level, defeating the Spartans 100-81.
Pedrotti nearly matched her 200 IM time from the Liverpool meet, this time winning in 2:23.53, and she tacked on a 500 freestyle victory in 5:37.11. Castro also won twice, maintaining her pace in the 200 freestyle (2:00:80) and improving to 54.68 second in the 100 freestyle.
Smith earned a 100 backstroke victory in 1:04.85 and Erin Dowler took the 100 breaststroke (1:13.02) as Uczen got 186.5 points on the diving board.
Cahalan, Smith, Pedrotti and Guy improved to 1:59.52 in the 200 medley relay, with Castro helping Guy, Becca Kanoz and Gianna Branca as WG claimed the 200 freestyle relay in 1:46.47.
