At least for the Baldwinsville boys cross country team, the second meeting with Cicero-North Syracuse proved the charm – no third time required.
The Bees, who lost a narrow decision to the Northstars 27-30 a week earlier at Oneida Shores, got payback on its home course in Wednesday’s CNY Counties League National division championship meet.
B’ville finished with 35 points, just ahead of CNS, who was second with 43 points, and Liverpool, who got third place with 49 points.
As in their previous meeting, Alec Peinkofer won the individual race, his time of 15 minutes, 34.46 seconds more than half a minute better than CNS’s Anthony Lupia, who was second in 16:06.40.
After the Northstars’ Neil Gill took third, B’ville’s Josh Perez began the key sequence, as he got sixth place in 16:26.74. Andy Fleming, in 16:33.05, worked his way to seventh place, and Matt Pond was eighth in 16:34.71, all before the third CNS runner, Bryan Junod, took ninth place.
Then Jack Martin recorded a 13th-place finish in 16:49.46. That, plus various high finishes from Liverpool runners, neutralized CNS and put the Bees on top.
Meanwhile, in the girls CNYCL National race, B’ville fit into third place, finishing with 53 points. CNS took the top spot with 30 points as Liverpool (39 points) was runner-up.
Rachael Miller had an impressive individual showing, rising to fourth place in a time of 19:13.30 as CNS’s Jackie Halstead (18:42.99) claimed the first spot. Annie Peterson wasn’t far behind Miller, getting sixth place in 19:20.99.
Hannah Olds earned 12th place, in 20:13.34, while Julia Johnson finished 15th (20:34.58) and Kim Cushman got 16th place in 20:38.37. Just behind them, Emily McComb was 18th in 20:49.81.
