Each of the area’s girls tennis teams tore into the second half of a crowded regular-season slate and remained in top form before rain interrupted all the schedules.
Christian Brothers Academy, still undefeated, got scared a bit in Wednesday’s match against Chittenango, but did enough to beat the Bears 4-3.
Olivia Messineo and Colleen Cavanaugh easily won in singles, with Amanda Ojugbeli getting through two tough sets to beat Kourtney Wilson 7-5, 7-6.
Needing just one point in doubles, Trisha Maini and Elizabeth Sasser nearly got it, but lost to Shelby Hogan and Danielle Hurley 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. But Shilpa Kamani and Becky Scullin secured the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-1 win over McKenzie Doig and Kaleigh Koegel 6-4, 6-1.
CBA had already shut out Fulton 7-0 last Monday afternoon. Messineo, Cavanaugh and Ojugbeli all won their singles matches in straight sets, and the same was true in doubles. Jenna Bartolotti and Shannon Fitch had the closest match, but beat Anna Guernsey and Caitlin Lavoie 6-2, 7-5.
Jamesville-DeWitt easily turned back local rival East Syracuse-Minoa 7-0, as singles players Kyrin Pollock, Rea Puka and Amanda Lee all won singles matches without dropping a game. It was the same in doubles, where the teams of Natalie Antosh-Katie Cieplicki, Elena Marchetti-Bowick-Hannah Stefl, Hali Greenhouse-Lexi Lehrman and Alexis Narsipur-Samantha Williams won with similar ease.
Then the Red Rams blanked Manlius-Pebble Hill 7-0 a day later. Antosh fought to a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win over Emily Barclay, while Puka and Lee took the other singles matches in straight sets.
J-D won all the doubles matches in straight sets, including Mary Miller and Karley Platenik defeating Caroline Blanck and Sarah Malavanda 7-6, 6-0. Pollock shifted to doubles, teaming with Cieplicki to beat Hannae lee and Alaina McGinley 6-0, 7-5.
On Wednesday, the Red Rams made it three shutouts in as many days, blanking Fulton 7-0. Antosh had the closest singles contest, beating Faith Montgomery 6-3, 6-1, while Miller and Platenik worked hard in doubles to beat Anna Guernsey and Caitlin Lavoie 7-5, 6-3.
Just before this, MPH took a 5-2 defeat to Chittenango. Barclay won in singles, handling Kourtney Wilson 6-3, 6-1, while Lee routed Makenzie Mohorter 6-1, 6-0. Bu the Mustangs won every other match in straight sets. That included Scarlett Jaworski and Elizabeth Clarkson falling to Katie Brant and Shelby Hogan 6-2, 7-6.
Of course, Fayetteville-Manlius still has its epic win streak to protect, and did so easily in a 7-0 shutout of Syracuse East. The entire Hornets roster surrendered a grand total of three games in those seven matches as, in doubles, the teams of Jessica Guarino-Caitlin Welker and Laurin Golberg-Alexandra Millimaci both had 6-0, 6-0 efforts.
ESM played Wednesday, falling to Mexico 6-1, the only point coming when Samantha Lobello rallied to beat Emliy Passer 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, while Erica Binion and Caitlin Underwood had a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 defeat to Brooke Willis and Carissa Woolson. The Tigers won every other match in straight sets.
Bishop Grimes returned Wednesday and beat Pulaski 5-2. Erannan Shattuck won in singles over Kristina Gilbert 6-4, 6-4, while Amelia Heiselman handled Camilla Camiletti 6-3, 6-2. The Cobras also went 3-1 in doubles, including a forfeit as the teams of Danielle Erwin-Mackenzie Thomson and Caitlyn Buckman-Nicole Donati both won in straight sets.
