As they moved deeper into OHSL Freedom division play, both of Chittenango’s soccer teams fought to find any sort of good news.
Entering the week at 2-2, the girls Bears hosted East Syracuse-Minoa last Tuesday night and could not quite get there in a 2-1 loss to the Spartans.
Chittenango fell behind, 1-0, in the first half, and though Kelsey Busse put the Bears on the board in the late stages, ESM prevailed by Amanda Wall, who scored one goal and assisted on the other, by Nicole Devona. Sierra Shafer finished with five saves.
But the Bears returned to .500 Friday, at Mexico, where it tamed the Tigers 2-0. Following a scoreless first half, Chittenango zoomed in front by seeing Kaitlin Antelmi and Katie Milliman put shots in the net. Sarah Pierce and Laura Billington added assists, while Shafer stopped all seven shots she faced.
Moving to the boys side, Chittenango only played once last week, going to Cortland last Tuesday and falling to the Purple Tigers 2-0.
Twice in the first half, Cortland’s Vinnie Bellardini put shots past Bears goalie Kyle Coon. Though Coon would shut out the Purple Tigers the rest of the way and earn six saves, Chittenango would not get on the board.
The boys Bears are home this week to take on CBA and Fulton, while the Chittenango girls host Phoenix Tuesday before a Friday trip to CBA.
