A mere nine days after they first got together, the Baldwinsville boys soccer team met up with Liverpool again, this time on the Warriors’ home turf.

And while it again proved a terrific battle, it again had the same result – the Bees on top, this time in a tense 1-0 battle that didn’t require overtime, only an all-out effort, especially on the defensive front.

Overtime was needed in the first encounter, on Sept. 6 at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium, where the Bees gave up a 1-0 lead in regulation, but prevailed 2-1 when Mike Guardino poured home a rebound of Adam Lauko’s hard shot from the point that goalie Karl Miller could not corral.

The rematch, played on the same field where B’ville beat Fayetteville-Manlius in the 2010 sectional AA final, saw neither side able to convert in the first half.

Right away, Matt Miles, Austin Jabbour, James Goodridge and the rest of B’ville’s back line were under pressure, but they, along with goalie Alex Bono, turned away all of Liverpool’s charges, leaving the game 0-0 going into the break.

As they maintained the shutout in the second half, the pressure on the other end built, too. Finally, Lauko put home an unassisted goal, beating Miller, and it proved the game-winner.

Two nights earlier, the Bees visited Henninger and, thanks to a quick start, breezed to a 4-0 win over the Black Knights.

Just as with Liverpool, Henninger plays on an artificial surface, but B’ville flourished, roaring to a 3-0 halftime lead with a well-balanced attack.

Four different players –Lauko, Guardino, Adam Gentile and Jon Price – had the four goals, with Lauko and Gentile adding assists. Miles contributed a pair of assists, too.

Now at 5-0 following the pair of wins over Liverpool, the Bees visited West Genesee on Tuesday before returning home Friday to face Rome Free Academy.
