The agenda was quite lengthy during last Thursday’s Jordan-Education Board of Education meeting. However, The meeting was uplifting, encouraging and a sign of what is to come for this school district that has been turned upside down throughout the recent months.
A Powerpoint presentation was shown before the agenda items highlighting the testing scores and how significant progress has been forged with the Jordan-Elbridge School District. The teacher spoke with enthusiasm, emphasizing the percentage of above, average and below students that fall within certain high school subjects including math, history and science.
As the presentation marched on so did the thoughts of the unexpected state of Central New York schools. A majority of colleagues and family of mine have gone to school or in school to pursue their profession in teaching. Each and every one of our staff have studied hard and have expressed the dedication and passion for what they are about to embark on. The teacher who presented, although older in age, expressed those same kind of characteristics. No matter how long she has been in the school district, the bravado didn’t lack.
The state of teachers within CNY is uncertain, budget cuts have sliced through a majority of schools, leaving a hole when it comes to programs and curriculum. However, it’s refreshing to see no matter the state, teachers continue to maintain the love of their profession.
