Elbridge Town Supervisor Ken Bush Jr. will not run in the primaries for the Legislative District 13 Republican nomination. “As a matter of fact, I’m going to be supporting Bob Warner’s bid for the Republican nomination in the [primaries] in September,” Bush said. The Onondaga County Republican Committee last month gave it endorsement to Van Buren Town Councilor Derek Shepard over Bush and former Camillus Town Councilor Dan Stanistreet. Both were considering a primary challenge against Shepard, and both have now decided against it. The seat was opened up when Robert Warner, who has held the District 13 seat for nearly 22 years, said he would not run for re-election. Warner has since accepted the Conservative Party’s endorsement and announced that he will run in the primaries against Derek Shepard for the Republican nomination for the District 13 seat. “I think with Bob running on the Republican and Conservative lines in the fall, it will make a stronger candidate,” Bush said. According to a June 8 Post-Standard report, Warner said he changed his mind about a primary “because running solely as a third-party candidate would likely split the Republican vote and open the door for the Democratic candidate, Jim Scaramuzzino, to win the seat.”
