Tuesday May 24 marked Key Bank’s 21st annual “Neighbors Make the Difference Day.”
Employees at Key Bank locations nationwide close their doors at noon and enter their communities to volunteer at local organizations in need of extra help.
In Central New York, 350 employees took part in the event, assisting 51 area groups. Four of Cazenovia Key Bank’s employees went to the Cazenovia Public Library to paint outside lampposts and help ready the library for their Summer Reading Program by stuffing educational passports.
“This is a great event. Every year it gives us a chance to give back to the community and let people know that although we are a national bank, we’re on a local level too,” said Senior Teller Kaleb Wilson. “It’s a great opportunity to pick a local organization to go out and volunteer for, and help out with any projects that need doing.”
Nationally, more than 8,000 employees traded their business suits and donned jeans and a company shirt for the afternoon, totaling more than 31,000 employee volunteer hours. The tradition stretches through all levels of corporate involvement, including tellers and managers.
Coordinators from Key Bank report that in the past 21 years, employees have logged over 500,000 volunteer hours during “Neighbors Day.”
