Hottest Out heats up
Entertainers of all types – from rappers to comics, from singers to instrumentalists – are invited to showcase their talents every second Friday of each month in the Hottest Out Series being staged this week at 7 p.m. Friday, May 13, at the Boys & Girls Club, 201 Shonnard St., on the city’s West End; 863-1315.
Selected performances will be aired on Time Warner public access channels.
All-girl big band in L’pool
The DIVA Jazz Orchestra headlines Liverpool High School’s 14th annual Jumpin’ Jazz Jam at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 13, at the high-school auditorium at 4340 Wetzel Road, in the town of Clay. Admission costs $10, or $8 for students and seniors; 453-1500, ext. 4026.
The 15-piece all-female big band is led by swing drummer Sherrie Maricle Bern. Also performing will be the LHS Stage Band and the LHS Jazz Ensemble.
Maniacs rave at Redhouse
Syracuse Area Music Award-winner Mark Doyle & The Maniacs will rock out on bluesy British Invasion tunes at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Redhouse, 201 S. Bob Dylan Birthday Bash
To commemorate his 70th birthday on May 24, CNY musicians will celebrate the music of Bob Dylan at 7 p.m. Monday, May 16, at the Palace Theater, 2384 James St., in Eastwood. Headliners are the Rob Stoner Band and Professor Louie & The Crowmatix, both of whom are veterans of Dylan’s live band. Other performers include Todd Hobin, L’il Georgie, Donna Colton, Mark Hoffmann, Colin Aberdeen, Loren Barrigar, Leo Crandall and Marcia Hagan. The FabCats will open the show and back several of the singers.
