Volleyball Bears sweep Jordan-Elbridge

Beginning its trek through the winter, the Chittennago girls volleyball team took little time establishing control of events.

The Bears, who went 9-10 a season ago and lost in the Section III Class A quarterfinals to Homer, took just three games to oust visiting Jordan-Elbridge in Friday’s season opener.

Sharp from the opening serve, Chittenango won the opening game 25-14. Only the second game proved close as the Bears held on, 25-20, then finished off the Eagles with a 25-16 decision in the third game.

Rose Mashie, with six assists, three kills and two aces, led a balanced effort as Rochelle Robinson served up five aces. Rachel Antelmi produced five kills, while Jenna Barber put together three kills and four aces. Sierra Sleight added four assists.

Chittenango’s first road match of the season came on Tuesday, at Jamesville-DeWitt, and the Bears will meet Homer Friday night.
