Hamilton, Canastota soccer pick up wins

Still slamming its way through the early play in the Center State Conference, the Hamilton boys soccer team’s hot start continued Tuesday with a 3-0 shutout of Sauquoit Valley.

It was 0-0 most of the first half — but in an 18-second span, the Emerald Knights took charge. Drew Thompson and Dan Kraynak both scored goals in that short span and assisted on each other’s scoring plays.

Sam Owens would add a third goal midway through the second half, with Thompson again offering the key pass. Kinnon Nolan-Finkel only had to face four shots in front of a tough Hamilton defense.

Another shutout followed on Thursday, with Hamilton taking out Waterville 4-0 in a game where all the offense came in the first half.

Thompson again had a strong outing, scoring twice and adding an assist, while Sam Hale and Phil Douchinsky earned single goals. Kraynak and Noah Fry earned assists.

Canastota’s vast improvement continued in last Tuesday’s 2-1 overtime win over Sherburne-Earlville, decided on a goal just 19 seconds before the OT periods ended. Jared Gibson-Faber and Francesco Sangiatta earned the Raiders’ goals, with John Iaconis getting an assist. Kevin Hoyt finished with eight saves.

But the Raiders really had fun on Thursday, wiping out Morrisville-Eaton 8-0 to move above the .500 mark to 4-3 on the season.

Iaconis, with a three-goal hat trick, set the fast pace as Gibson-Faber found the net twice and Sangiatta poured in a goal and two assists. Adrian Nicholas and Steve Kiel also scored, with Sean Coppola, Corey Arner and Kevin Brod contributing assists.
