Slotted into the Varsity 4 division for Saturday’s Vernon Verona Sherrill Invitational, the Liverpool cross country team proceeded to dominate on both the male and female ends.
The boys race saw the Warriors occupy half of the top 10 spots and finish with 29 points, well clear of runner-up New Hartford, who finished with 72 points.
Brandon Rudd led Liverpool’s effort, the senior taking third place among individuals with a time of 17 minutes, 54.3 seconds. Fellow senior Zach Crosby was fourth, in 18:01.3, with Anthony Ostuni fifth in 18:08.6.
Just behind them, Kevin Abel finished eighth in 18:17.4, inches ahead of Drew Henry in ninth place (18:17.6). Casey Guilfoil was 13th (18:27 flat) and Anthony Romano 16th (18:38.2), with Travis Chewning-Kul, Adam Zinger and Kevin Rudd all finishing in the top 31, too.
Though it proved a lot closer in the girls Varsity 4 race at VVS, Liverpool still finished on top, earning 32 points to Cazenovia’s second-place total of 43 points.
Warriors senior Rachel Putman finsihed third in a time of 20:54.9, just ahead of sophomore Ashley Letteney, who was fourth in 21:12.8.
Kaitlyn McNamara, in eighth place (21:50.1), and Caroline Dieffender, in 10th place (22:04.7), moved into the top 10, with Morgan Mahoney 12th in 22:13.4 and Ali Whiting 14th in 22:36.9. Jessica Attaway was 26th in a clocking of 23:57.5.
