Salina appoints Mark Lafaver to replace Gerald Holmes
At its Aug. 9 meeting the Salina Town Board unanimously approved the appointment of Mark Lafaver as one of its four code enforcement officers.
Lafaver, of Daniel Drive, in Liverpool, replaces recently retired codes officer Gerald Holmes.
Salina Town Supervisor Mark Nicotra said three candidates had been interviewed for the opening.
“We felt that Mark Lafaver was the best of the three,” Nicotra said. “He’s a longtime town resident and he has all the appropriate training.” Lafaver is a certified as both a building and fire inspector and as a N.Y. state code enforcement officer.
A self-employed contractor and welder, Lafaver volunteers for the Liverpool Fire Department, where he presently serves as line officer. He joined the town’s full-time code enforcement staff on Aug. 10, at the rate of $18.29 per hour.
The town’s code enforcers work under the direction of Bernie English, Salina’s commissioner of planning and development. Besides Lafaver, the town’s code enforcement officers are Edward Causato, Jason Perkins and George Keeler, the office’s deputy director.
The planning and development department provides for the health, safety, welfare and safety education of town residents. The department routinely handles zoning-compliance complaints, common code violations, building permit inspections and fire safety inspections.
