Red Rooster Pub’s new mascot needs a name;
A rooster, who was headed for the chopping block, has taken up residence at the Red Rooster Pub in Skaneateles Falls.
Well, not inside, but just off the back patio there is a coop for one.
Proprietor Tom Benedict is enlisting the community’s help in naming his new mascot. Just stop by the Red Rooster anytime between noon and midnight Tuesday through Sunday and submit your suggestion in writing to the barkeep. All the details of selection haven’t been worked out, but Benedict said he will update the public as soon as it is scratched out.
No chickens?
Benedict said that having chickens around would inspire the Rooster to become protective — meaning he could get aggressive. It seems this is one Rooster destined for the bachelor life. It’s easier that way.
But don’t think this rooster isn’t enjoying the rites of bachelorhood. He has all the cracked corn he can eat and plenty of fresh water. He also gets to roam, spending Tuesday night Aug. 3 dancing to the live music of “Better Than Bowling.”
Barbecue
Tuesday and Sunday nights the Red Rooster holds BBQ bike nights on its patio.
The grill goes outside and there is live music, too, said Benedict. The music on Tuesday Aug. 3 was “Better Than Bowling,” featuring Paul Power on guitar and vocals, Tom Marr on lead guitar, Dave Clement on drums and vocals and Tom Navaugh fronts the band and plays bass. The band covers classic rock and rhythm & blues with a couple of original tunes as well. They were laid back and part of the party.
The Rooster is located on Jordan Road in Skaneateles Falls half way between Elbridge and Skaneateles. It’s right across the street from Welch Allyn’s plant in the Falls.
There is also entertainment on Wednesday nights but that starts later and is mostly inside.
