During the colder months, Critz Farms conjures up thoughts of pumpkins, Christmas trees and maple syrup. But now that summer is here, it’s time for blueberry season at the Cazenovia farm.
“The fields are open and the crop looks fabulous!” said Matt and Juanita Critz in a newsletter announcing the season. “The perfect combination of heat and rain has helped to produce tons of beautiful, juicy berries!”
Critz offers pick-your-own or freshly picked blueberries daily from dawn until dusk. Visitors should come to the main barn at the farm for baskets and directions to the field, or stop by and get some already picked berries.
When visiting the farm for berry picking, families and their children can enjoy some time on the playgrounds, and visit the goats as well. The Balsam Barn Gift Shop is open for summer hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays.
Even though it’s summer, pure Critz Farms maple syrup is always available for sale as well. A map and directions to the farm can be found at critzfarms.com.
“Blueberries are a healthy treat! Great as a snack, in yogurt or cereal, over ice cream, or in your favorite recipe!” said the Critzes. “Try your hand at putting up some jam, or freezing these delicious berries so you can have some local summer flavor all year through!”
Critz Farms will be offering tours of Critz Farms and free samples of their products from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday July 24.
