Reinforcing its favorite status, the Liverpool baseball team went to Fayetteville-Manlius Thursday and again dominated all phases of the game in a 9-0 shutout of the Hornets.
The Warriors offered a hint with a single run in the second inning, then tagged F-M pitcher Jeremy Mapstone for five runs in the top of the third, most of them racing home when Pat Wright cleared the bases with a triple.
A three-run fourth inning followed, but Pat Brown had more than enough help. Impressive throughout May (he already had beaten Cicero-North Syracuse and Baldwinsville), Brown blanked F-M in a complete-game effort where he surrendered five hits and a single walk, but struck out five. Peake, Schreyack, Jim Wright and Corbin Gapski drove in single runs.
In between that game and the 12-4 romp of Utica Proctor on May 17, the Warriors crushed Nottingham 19-5, racing out to a 15-0 lead through three innings that included seven runs in the bottom of the second.
Some new players emerged here, including Nick Scannell, who had three hits, including two doubles, and earned five RBIs. Josh Withrow and Rob Cavelli both finished with three hits and two RBIs, while Gapski also drove in two runs. Rob Broddus, Matt O’Kipney and Pat Rowe earned one RBI apiece.
Liverpool indeed got the no. 1 seed for the Section III Class AA playoffs, and will play in Thursday’s quarterfinals against no. 8 seed Baldwinsville or no. 9 seed Corcoran. Win there, and the Warriors get Proctor or CNS in the semifinals on Saturday. The title game is June 2 at Alliance Bank Stadium.
