Wherever one looked on Thursday afternoon, Cicero-North Syracuse girls track and field star Jasmine Thompson seemed to be on her way to winning another event in the Northstars’ annual showdown with Liverpool at Bragman Stadium. This happened four times, giving CNS all kinds of valuable points as it powered past the Warriors 82-59 to complete a perfect 5-0 run through the CNY Counties League National division. Thompson’s latest star turn began in the 100-meter high hurdles, where the University of Buffalo-bound senior tore to victory in 15.3 seconds. Moving to field events, Thompson unleashed a top long jump of 16 feet 7 1/2 inches, then went 36 feet 1 1/2 inches in the triple jump as, for a fourth title, she cleared 4 feet 10 inches in the high jump. As a complement to Thompson, the Northstars swept the top spots in distance running events. By herself, Maria Lamontagne gained first place in the 1,500-meter run in 4:53.3, then moved to the 3,000-meter run and won again in 10:12.6. Over at 800 meters, Taylor Wendler took first place in 2:17.5, this after helping Katie Laris, Marissa Colburn and Jackie Halstead take the 4×800 relay in a time of 9:52.9. Katie Osborne sneaked in to take the 200-meter dash in 27.5 seconds. Much of the Northstars’ margin could be attributed to a sweep of field events. Valerie Langevin threw the discus 104 feet 6 1/2 inches and also tossed the shot put 35 feet 1 inch, while Jessica Wheeler excelled in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet. Liverpool fared best in sprints and relays. Armani Moore ran the 100-meter dash in 13.2 seconds, with Skye Borasky taking the 400-meter dash (1:01.7) and Trina Bills putting up a time of 1:09.8 to beat the field in the 400-meter hurdles. Moore anchored Liverpool’s winning effort in the 4×100 relay (52.5 seconds), while Borasky helped Rachel Putman, Ashley Letteney and Katie Rowell take the 4×400 relay in 4:13.4. Just three days before meeting CNS, Liverpool faced Utica Proctor — and watched the Raiders’ stars gain enough points to beat the Warriors 75-66. The Warriors did sweep the distance races. Lesley Bowers
prevailed in the 1,500 (5:15.2) and 3,000 (11:17.3), while Chelsea Attaway took first in the 800 (2:37.8) and Liverpool claimed the 4×800 relay in 11:52.6. Bills needed 1:02.1 to earn first place in the 400-meter dash, while Tatiana Gladney prevailed in the shot put (33 feet 9 inches) and Mary Reed won the discus (82 feet 6 inches). Proctor’s Geannitta McClain led her side, winning the 100-meter dash (12.1 seconds) and 200-meter dash (26.0 seconds), and helping the Warriors’ 4×100 relay team get first place in 52.2 seconds. ONE AND TWO: Taking her last strides to a first place finish in the 1,500-meter run, Cicero-North Syracuse’s Maria Lamontagne, right, with a time of 4:53.3 and her teammate, Nicole Watterud, followed for a second place finish at Thursday’s dual meet against Liverpool High School. Lamontagne also topped the 3,000-meter run with another win where Watterud scored a third place finish for the Northstars. Attached photo by Farah Jadran Pike.
