Though the Skaneateles girls track and field team would romp past host Hannibal 106-34 in last Wednesday’s meet, it could not keep up with Cazenovia, taking an 84-57 defeat as those other Lakers claimed first place in the OHSL Liberty division. Caroline Walton did give Skaneateles a couple of wins in the throwing events, tossing the shot put 35 feet 5 inches and the discus 87 feet 2 1/2 inches. Gabby Eckles also prevailed in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 1 inch. On the oval, Victoria Sakal needed 13.1 seconds to win the 100-meter dash, while Danielle Mazzeo, Emily Wood, Amanda Gray and Blair Gage took the 4×800 relay in 10:34.3. Carly Strods lost a close 1,500-meter race to Cazenovia’s Tori Widrick, 5:15.5 to Widricks’ 5:15.3. Cazenovia featured the multi-talented Paige Biviano, who won the 100-meter high hurdles (16.6 seconds), long jump (15 feet 5 inches) and triple jump (32 feet 8 inches). The Skaneateles boys team earned a split, beating Hannibal 84-57, but losing to Cazenovia in a tight 74-66 decision. Tim Lewis won the 100-meter dash in 12.1 seconds and cleared 5 feet 10 inches to prevail in the high jump. Sean Cooper was first in the 400 hurdles (1:03.2) and needed 16.7 seconds to win the 110-meter high hurdles. Weyneth cleared 10 feet 6 inches to win the pole vault.
