The Westhill girls lacrosse team returned to action Friday, at Skaneateles, and nearly made it all the way back from a big early deficit before falling to the Lakers 11-10.
Skaneateles appeared in full control, leading 8-3 at the half. But led by Breanna Haggerty and Brenna Rainone, Westhill made it quite interesting, ultimately narrowing the margin to one but coming up just short.
Haggerty led both sides with four goals, adding two assists as Rainone got three goals and two assists. Caroline Buonocore scored twice and Molly Kiggins got a single goal. For Skaneateles, Diane Vitkus and Shelby McNeilly each had three goals, with Maddy Morrissey and Grace Kelly getting two goals apiece.
As this went on, Jordan-Elbridge returned to action and beat up Cazenovia 16-4 for its first win of the season following an 0-3 start.
Though the Lakers were short-handed, the Eagles showed little mercy, taking control from the start, gaining at 7-2 lead by halftime and continuing to add to it later.
Emily Dillon and Amanda Brown matched each other with three goals and two assists. Chelsea Maitland, Carrie-Jo Farrugia and Mallory Snyder produced two goals apiece as Kelsey Youmell got one goal and one assist. Emly Bates, Amanda Wheeler and Kelsey Armani also converted.
J-E would get its shot at Westhill on Wednesday and host Bishop Ludden on Friday, just as the Eagles are going to Tully.
