Four days after sweeping Fulton, many of the Jamesville-Dewitt track and field stars went west, to the Jordan-Elbridge Invitational, and put on another sparkling show.
Bumkoth Jiak dominated in the 800-meter run, his time of 1:56.33 more than 11 seconds better than the rest of the field, a huge mark for a half-mile event. Then, in the mile, Jiak led a 1-2 finish as, in a clocking of 4:34.74, he beat Austin Davis (4:38.29) for that top spot.
In the 4×400 relay, J-D went to the top as Alex Wilmot, Tom Wilson, Will Sterriker and Max Smith held off Marcellus, 3:44.75 to 3:44.84, at the line. Sterriker also prevailed on his own, taking the long jump by going 18 feet 10 1/2 inches as he got third (37 feet 7 inches) in the triple jump.
Tom Driscoll (10:37.11) and Will Hohreiter (10:43.56) were third and fifth, respectively, in the 3,200-meter run, as TylerPetersen took fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.36. J-D was fourth in the 4×100 relay in 48.12 seconds and also fourth (9:29.85) in the 4×800.
Moving to the girls event, J-D did pull out in front in the 4×400 relay, where Margaret Fuller, Danielle Doss, Katy Pieri and Liz Pieri finished in 4:26.03, more than six seconds ahead of the field.
Ameena Dye finished second in the 3,000-meter run in 11:14.75, with Hannah Stefl (11:20.10) in fourth place. Stefl also was fourth in the 1,500-meter run. In a close 100 sprint final, Marae Tearney was second in 13.47 seconds as Shelby Loomis (South Lewis) won in 13.42 seconds.
In the long jump, Sierra Vasiliou was second with a leap of 15 feet, while Fuller cleared 4 feet 8 inches to take third in the high jump. Doss (8 feet) and Katy Pieri (7 feet 6 inches) were second and third, respectively, in the pole vault.
Vasiliou, Tearney, Ally Fox and Taylor-Rae Danforth needed 54.43 seconds to take second in the 4×100. Doss, Morrow, Dye and Jenna Hayward were second in the 4×800 relay in 10:43.88. Liz Pieri was second in the 400 in 1:02.58, with Katy Pieri (1:04.93) in fourth.
Two days earlier, at the East Syracuse-Minoa Boys Invitational, CBA and the host Spartans both had solid efforts.
With a late charge, CBA’s Tom Voorheis won the mile, overtatking Tully’s Ohure Sam to prevail in 4:36.90 as Brendan Smith finished third in 4:40.33.
Tre Williams won the triple jump, going 41 feet 4 1/2 inches, and was third in the high jump (5 feet 10 inches). John Dunmore was fourth in the 100-meter dash, but teamed with Williams, Brian Schwab and Amani Jackson a for second (46.87 seconds) to Tully (46.66) in the 4×100.
ESM would win the sprint medley relay as Kyle Gagen, Justin Proulx, Ray Winterhalt and Mike Coogan got a time of 4:14.82, more than four seconds ahead of runner-up Watertown.
Steve Episcopo finished second in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet 6 inches, as the Spartans also got third in the steeplechase relay (10:19.58). Mike Terry (1:06.62) and Andres Salcedo (1:08.44) were third and fourth, respectively, in the 400 hurdles, with Salcedo getting fourth and Terry fifth in the 110 high hurdles. Mike Coogan ran to fifth in the mile.
As a result, ESM, with 48 points, edged out CBA (46 points) for seventh place in a 12-team field where Watertown, with 101.2 points, finished in front.
