JoAnne Spoto Decker, of Elbridge, will be honored with a Diversity Achievers Award at the 12th Annual YWCA Day of Commitment to Eliminate Racism and Promote Diversity Luncheon, Wednesday, April 21.
As the Director of Community Service Programs for the Onondaga County Department of Aging and Youth, Spoto Decker has committed her personal and professional life to advocating on behalf of low-income families, senior citizens and others with diverse backgrounds in the Central New York community. She has worked tirelessly to receive funding to establish or enhances services for frail, low-income elderly and disabled persons in the community.
Widely recognized as an expert in her field, Spoto Decker has been called upon to present her knowledge and experience at a number of local, state and national venues.
Among her many accolades, Spoto Decker was honored by the Auburn/Cayuga NAACP with their Special Recognition Award in 1994 and their Martin Luther King Millennium Award in 2003. She also has received the Onondaga County Martin Luther King, Jr. Employee Recognition Award in 2003 for her work in diversity awareness.
