Having made huge state and national marks in the fall and winter, the Fayetteville-Manlius track and field team now has begun its spring work, with much the same ambitions in mind.
The Hornets met Nottingham last Wednesday afternoon and won everywhere in the course of beating the Bulldogs 116-16 on the girls side, 98-34 on the boys side.
In the girls event, Kathryn Fanning won both the 1,500-meter run (4:51) and 3,000-meter run (10:40), while Courtney Chapman needed 2:23.1 to prevail at 800 meters.
Mackenzie Carter, at full strength again, won the 400-meter dash in 1:02.5 and teamed with Audrey Wallace, Hannah Levy and Molly Levy to take the 4×400 relay in 4:26.9. Wallace, on her own, had a top triple jump of 30 feet 4 inches and also won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:09.3.
As for Molly Levy, she won the 200-meter dash (28.2 seconds) and, with Hannah Lee, Shannon Darin and Katelyn Gualtieri, ran the 4×100 relay in 53.9 seconds.
Jhoville Pommels (shot put, 29 feet 7 inches), Tammy Gould (discus, 77 feet 4 inches), Heather Rougueux (long jump, 13 feet 9 inches) and Alexa Capozzi (high jump, 4 feet 8 inches) helped F-M sweep the field events. And in the 4×800 relay, Hannah Luber, Jillian Fanning, Mary Bucklin and Maggie Malone prevailed in 10:48.8.
Chris Ruggeri set the pace for the F-M boys, as he swept the high jump (6 feet), long jump (18 feet 6 1/2 inches) and triple jump (39 feet 10 inches), then made it four wins by running the 110 high hurdles in 16.6 seconds.
Elsewhere, Ryan Jones had wins in the 100 (11.4 seconds) and 200 (24.5 seconds) sprints as Alex Hatz warmed up with a 50.9-second trip through the 400-meter dash. That left Mark McGurrin (800 meters, 2:11.8), Paul Merriman (mile, 4:35) and Andrew Roache (3,200 meters, 10:09.8) to dominate the distance events.
In the 4×800 relay, Hatz, Merriman, Roache and Owen Strong combined for a top time of 9:33 as Hatz returned to anchor a winning 4×400 relay (3:49.5) that included Addison Straub, A.J. Blitz and Joe Hartnett.
Another power, Jamesville-DeWitt, made its debut at Saturday’s Cicero-North Syracuse Relays, finishing sixth in the 16-team boys events with 26 points and seventh in the 15-team girls field with 26 points.
David Salbert, Tim Kendrick, Bumkoth Jiak and Will Sterriker combined to dominate the spring medley relay, winning in a time of 3:40.59, more than seven seconds ahead of runner-up Mexico.
On his own, Salbert won the individual boys triple jump, going 45 feet 3 inches as he and Tim Kendrick took second (85 feet 2 inches) behind Rush-Henrietta. Jiak won the individual mile in 4:29.78, combining with Dan Driscoll for fifth place on the team side. Sterriker and Nate Sturgeon were fourth in the 110 high hurdles (combined 35.33 seconds) as J-D also was sixth in the shot put.
Moving to the girls side, Amanda Tan and Danielle Doss were second in the pole vault (combined 15 feet 6 inches), with Doss joining Margaret Fuller as they took fourth (9 feet) in the high jump.
Eileen Cody, Ameena Dye, Hannah Stefl and Dossworked together in the mile and finished third with 23:27.45. Doss, Dye, Linsay Royer and Eileen Cody were fourth in the distance medley relay in 13:39.36.
