Lysander officials have selected two projects eligible for Community Development Funds, which they will present to town residents at 7 p.m. Monday March 22 during a public hearing.
The total potential request is for $128,000 in Community Development Funds, which would pay for 75 percent of two projects: improvements to Lysander Park, which include an asphalt path and handicap parking spots making pavilions and sports fields handicap accessible; and a small craft boat launch along Lock Street in the village of Baldwinsville.
“The park is a very busy place in the summer,” said Jim Laird, town engineer, who estimated the park project to cost $131,000, $32,750 of which the town would be responsible.
The total cost for the boat launch, which would also include a handicap accessible fishing access, would be $40,000 and Lysander would be responsible for $10,000. Councilor Art Levy noted the two existing boat launches, located in Community and Mercer parks, are not overburdened, suggesting a third boat launch may not be necessary.
Community Development Funds are grants made available through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development for distribution by the county to local municipalities for local improvement projects. Should the grant(s) be approved, the village would be responsible for funding 25 percent of the total project ($268,000 total, village responsible for $68,000), which includes in-kind services, fund-raising and taxation.
