At its March 1 meeting, the Baldwinsville Central School District Board of Education honored 14 students for their accomplishments in music and in The Post-Standard/WCNY Spelling Bee. Before the meeting began, Baker High School’s vocal jazz ensemble,Company B (formerly Silk & Satin), performed.
The following Baker High School students were honored for being selected to perform in the band at the NYSSMA 2010 Area All-State Music Festival, held Feb. 5 and 6 at Ithaca College:
- Kaitlyn Allen — Clarinet
Benjamin Bardenett — Trombone
Jeremy Bossert — Tuba
Brianna Hoige – Percussion
Ezra Kim — Trumpet
Timothy Richards — Trumpet
The board honored the following Baker High School students for being selected for the vocal jazz ensemble for the OCMEA Jazz Festival, to be held March 26 and 27 at Skaneateles High School:

Marissa McLean
Brian Scott
Ashley Squairs
The Board of Education also honored the following students who participated in the The Post-Standard/WCNY Spelling Bee, held Feb. 6:
Katherine Schumacher, an eighth-grader at Durgee Junior High School, was the winner of the spelling bee for the second year in a row. She will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. at the end of May.
Dana Norton, an eighth-grader at Durgee Junior High School, was the second place winner of the spelling bee.
Shelley Verma, a seventh-grader at Ray Middle School, made it to the sixth round of the competition.
