After a full winter of victories attained against Section III foes, Baldwinsville boys indoor track and field star Brian Kane would keep right up with the best in the state during last Saturday’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet at Cornell University.
Competing at Barton Hall, Kane did not stop until he head cleared 6 feet 4 inches. That left him in a big group that included Justin Wilson (Floral Park), Kevin Enck (Webster Schroeder), Mike Rabbitt (Oneida) and Drayke Jackson (Northport) at that same height, all of them behind O’Neil Sandford (Paul Robeson), who won by clearing 6 feet 8 inches.
When it was all sorted out, Kane finished third, trailing Wilson for the silver medal, but ahead of Enck, Rabbitt and Jackson to earn that bronze and go on the podium.
B’ville’s other athlete at the state meet, Rudy Sapp, was in the boys 55-meter dash, unable to make it out of the preliminary round as he finished 22nd in 6.83 seconds. Berfrantz Charles (North Babylon) won the final in 6.40 seconds.
