Both the Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA and Fayetteville-Manlius boys swim team would find success during Thursday night’s Section III Class A championship meet at Nottingham High School.
In fact, the Red Rams would come close to snagging the team title, earning 293 points, second only to West Genesee, who finished on top with 323 points.
J-D/CBA’s Eric Jorgenson qualified for two different events at the Feb. 26-27 state meet in Buffalo. He took third place in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:46.51 and, in the 500-yard freestyle, worked his way to second place in 4:53.21. Both times, Westhill senior Dan O’Connor won.
Russ Farchione also qualified through his second-place time of 2:01.23 in the 200-yard individual medley, and he added a fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.88.
Combined, Jorgenson, Russ Farchione, Garrett Farchione and Bryan Daley came within inches of winning the 400-yard freestyle relay. J-D/CBA finished in a time of 3:19.32, inches behind Auburn (3:19.08), though both quartets qualified for the state meet.
That same J-D/CBA relay team was third in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:31.33, as Garrett Farchione took fifth (58.22 seconds) in the 100 backstroke and fifth (56.46 seconds) in the 100-yard butterfly. Daley was sixth in the 50 freestyle.
As for F-M, it had Kevin Koh reach the state meet with a third-place time of 22.47 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and a third (54.14 seconds) in the 100 butterfly.
The Hornets’ Jack Robinson took third in the 100 backstroke (55.75 seconds) and Ryan Kelley got third (59.98) in the 100 breaststroke, each joining Koh as state qualifiers. Robinson, Kelley, Koh and Will Twichell got to second in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:41.41 as West Genesee (1:36.67) won that event, too.
East Syracuse-Minoa’s Christian Larrabee was fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.50, advancing the state meet as he also was sixth (2:05.79) in the 200 IM.
