For the second time in seven days, a Jamesville-DeWitt indoor track and field team went out and dominated a Section III Class A championship meet at Manley Field House.
Only this time, it was the boys Red Rams taking charge, picking up 119 points to win the title as New Hartford finished second with 78 points. Nottingham was third with 52 points.
David Salbert again racked up wins on J-D’s behalf. He prevailed in the triple jump, going 44 feet 8 1/4 inches as Tim Kendrick (38 feet 3 3/4 inches) took third. And in the long jump, Salbert won by going 21 feet 3/4 inch.
In the 4×200 relay, Salbert, Mike Scibilia, Will Sterriker and Eric Semmel won in a time of 1:38.02, holding off Mexico (1:38.21) at the wire. Kendrick joined Tyler Petersen, Bumkoth Jiak and Austin Davis to dominate the 4×800 relay as J-D prevailed in 8:43.70. The Rams’ 4×400 relay quartet of Kendrick, Semmel, Alex Wilmot and Will Sterriker finished second in 3:38.63.
On his own, Jiak, like Salbert, won two events. He was victorious in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:23.62, nearly three seconds ahead of the field as Petersen finished sixth. In the 1,000-meter run, Jiak (2:44.47) was just ahead of East Syracuse-Minoa’s Craig Andrianos (2:45.97) in second place.
Ira Griffin won the 55-meter dash over Chittenango’s Brian Bohne, 6.77 seconds to 6.80, and claimed third place (36.96 seconds) in the 300-meter dash. Semmel was fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.70 seconds) and ESM’s Andres Salcedo was sixth.
Davis took fourth place (4:55.38) in the mile, with Will Hohreiter fourth (11:06.59) in the 3,200-meter run. Matt Spalding (40 feet 5 inches) and Brent Fallon (39 feet 2 inches) were third and fourth, respectively, in the shot put, while Christian Quetell took third place in the pole vault.
Fayetteville-Manlius tied for seventh in Class AA with 25 points, as Alex Hatz, fresh off his mile victory at a meet in Boston Feb. 6, tore to victory in the 3,200 in 9:12.62, beating the field by nearly half a minute. Paul Merriman was fifth in 9:52.04.
J.R. Sage, Owen Strong, Andrew Veilleux and Langston Lightcap were third in the 4×400 relay in 3:44.94. Mark McGurrin was fifth in the 600, in 1:29.85, as Ben Thomas took sixth (2:47.61) in the 1,000. Joe Hartnett and Andrew Roache were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the mile.
CBA, who had 24 points in the Class B meet, had Matt Gianinno run the 600 in 1:28.08 to finish third as he teamed with Tom Voorheis, Brendan Smith and Steve Anderson to finish second in the 4×800 relay (8:44.76) behind Marcellus.
On his own, Voorheis took fourth place in the 3,200 (9:53.62) and Brendan McIntyre was fourth (9.21 seconds) in the 55 hurdles. The Brothers were sixth in the 4×400, and Smith got sixth place in the mile.
