On Jan. 25, Elden Elementary kicked-off its three-week 2010 PARP Reading Olympics with a special opening ceremonies assembly.
The assembly began with students parading into the gym, class by class, as reading athletes representing various countries from around the globe. Special guest Al, the Syracuse Crunch’s mascot, helped to get students fired up to read for fifteen minutes each night during the program.
Elden’s goal is for students to accumulate a school-wide total of 200,000 minutes of reading. As students reach their weekly goals, the school will reward them with prizes such as popcorn and ice cream.
On Feb. 13, Elden will wrap up the Reading Olympics with a Valentine’s Day party at Barnes & Noble on Route 31 in Clay. The PTA has arranged several activities and crafts.
Guest readers and musicians will be in the store to help celebrate reading. In addition, a portion of all purchases made that day with a special PTA voucher will benefit the PTA as well as the Special Olympics.
