Leaving everyone else far behind, the Jamesville-DeWitt girls indoor track and field team dominated Wednesday night’s Section III Class A championship meet at Manley Field House.
With a total of 159 points, the Red Rams nearly doubled the total of runner-up Homer, who had 80 points. New Hartford was third with 67 points.
Of the five field events, J-D won four of them, going 1-2 in the triple jump when Natalie Mannion prevailed by going 34 feet 3 inches and Amanda Tan took second place with 32 feet 3 1/4 inches. Tan also was fourth in the long jump (15 feet 2 1/4 inches) as Sierra Vasiliou won, going 16 feet 4 1/4 inches.
In the shot put, Marae Tearney tossed it 34 feet 6 inches, winning as Olivia Costa got third place, going 29 feet 7 1/2 inches. Danielle Doss won the pole vault, clearing 7 feet 6 inches with fewer misses than New Hartford’s Cecilee Cashman as Katy Pieri (7 feet) was fourth. Margaret Fuller was second in the high jump, clearing 4 feet 10 inches.
Mannion, Tearney, Tan and Linsay Royer teamed up to win the 4×200 relay in 1:53.24, more than three seconds ahead of the field. J-D also won the 4×400 relay as Mannion, Royer, Katy Pieri and Liz Pieri posted a time of 4:13.35 to beat Mexico by more than eight seconds.
Individually on the oval, Liz Pieri won the 300-meter dash in 43.80 seconds, with Royer (45.73 seconds) in third place. Tearney beat the field in the 55-meter dash in 7.69 seconds, just ahead of Vasiliou (7.94 seconds) in third. Eileen Cody earned a victory in the 1,500-meter run in 4:59.82, just ahead of Homer’s Bori Toszer (5:00.27).
Cody, Paige Morrow, Rebecca Doss and Rebecca Bergman were second in the 4×800 relay in 10:29.37, as Morrow took second in the 1,000-meter run (3:14.11) and Doss took fourth (1:48.05) in the 600-meter run. Hannah Stefl was third (11:46.97) in the 3,000-meter run.
Meanwhile, in the sectional Class B meet, CBA picked up 46 points, taking fifth place in a bracket where Skaneateles, with 92 points, would prevail.
The Brothers did beat the Lakers in the 4×800 relay as Michaela Gildemeyer, Katie Brislin, Ashley Letteney and Rachel Zajdel posted a time of 10:19.71, with Skaneateles more than 10 seconds behind.
Brislin earned second place in the 3,000 in 11:07.42, while Gildemeyer took third in the 600-meter run (1:45.21) and Letteney finished fifth in 1:46.59. Zajdel was fourth (5:16.27 in the 1,500-meter run.
Betty Etheredge gave CBA a second-place finish in the long jump, going 15 feet 6 inches, while also earning third in the triple jump (33 feet 4 1/2 inches) as teammate Julia Nass was fifth.
