One more time, Cazenovia’s indoor track and field teams went to Colgate University’s Sanford Field House for Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Association action on Saturday afternoon.
And the girls Lakers would prevail in the Division II portion, with 172 points to runner-up Clinton’s total of 135 points. West Canada Valley was third with 98 points.
Paige Biviano won twice, as she claimed the 55-meter hurdles in 9.47 seconds and also took the long jump by going 16 feet 4 1/2 inches. Anna Schultz (13 feet 3/4 inch) was fourth in the long jump and Kleine was sixth.
In addition, Biviano was second in the high jump, clearing 5 feet as Sissy Bigsby and Laura Fitch were fourth and fifth, respectively, leading to 14 total points in the event.
Michelle McGinnis was second (6 feet 6 inches) in the pole vault. Christy Tainter had a second-place shot put toss of 27 feet 1 inch, with Molly Woodworth (26 feet 7 1/2 inches) third. Kleine got to fourth in the triple jump, with Kara Stadler sixth. Grace Eberle claimed fifth in the weight throw, just ahead of Gaby Nunez in sixth.
On the oval, Cazenovia’s 4×200 relay team of Jillian Vogl, Katie Kleine, Katie Woodworth and Audrey Bowers won in a time of 1:55.64. Over in the 4×800, Hollie Marcelle, Meaghan Liddell, Caroline Marshall and Rachel Grimm claimed first place in 11:17.28. And the Lakers completed the sweep as Marcelle, Liddell, Jackie O’Sullivan and Emmajean Spear won in 4:31.98.
Vogl would run to second in the 300-meter dash (44.58 seconds), inches behind West Canada’s Sarah Wiatr (44.54 seconds), with Ashley Winn taking fifth place. In the 55-meter dash, Vogl again was second — 7.83 seconds, to the 7.78 of South Lewis’ Shelby Loomis, with Bowers fourth and Woodworth fifth.
Sarah Fellows was second in the 1,500-meter run in 5:42.80 as Emma Wolsey took sixth. But Woolsey fared better in the 3,000-meter run as she posted a second-place time of 12:17.94.
Marcelle got second place in the 600-meter run (1:48.58) and Liddell (1:54.17) was third, as Margaret Wolsey, second in the 1,000-meter run (3:40.92), led an 18-point effort as Rachel Grimm took third (3:41.33) and Alex Dolbear fourth.
In the boys Division II portion of the MVITA meet, Cazenovia picked up 37 points and took fourth place, well off the 152-point winning total Clinton put up.
A big moment came in the 4×200 relay, where Brett Axelson, Zach Bender, Dylan Muller and Matt Donovan gave the Lakers a victory in 1:42.38, just ahead of Clinton (1:42.62) at the wire. And in the 4×400, Axelson, Donovan, Bender and Forest Blanchard won in 3:54 flat, nearly five seconds ahead of Clinton.
Dan Pati had a second-place time of 10:39.53 in the 3,200-meter run. Pat Dermody was third in the 1,000 in 2:51.35. Tyler Gladle took fifth in the shot put (35 feet 10 inches) as Patrick Nunez was sixth in the weight throw.
This all leads to the Section III indoor track championships at Manley Field House, with the girls heading there on Wednesday and the boys taking its turn six days later.
