Marcellus Mayor Michael Plochocki announced this morning that he will not seek a second term in the village’s top spot, but is considering throwing his hat in the State Assembly ring.
In a letter to village residents, Plochocki expressed his love for the position and the community, but said he could not continue the financial sacrifice that his first term as mayor had required.
Plochocki, an attorney, hinted last fall that he was leaning against running for a second term. The $3,900 annual salary paid to the village mayor could not justify the hours he scaled back in his law practice, Plochocki said.
But he’s not ready to leave politics yet.
“Our current State Assemblyman, Will Barclay, is considering a run for Congress,” Plochocki wrote. “If indeed he receives the nomination for that position, he would be unable to seek re-election to his State Assembly seat this year. In that scenario, I would seek nomination for that position.”
Petitions for new candidates interested in running for mayor are available at Marcellus Village Hall, 6 Slocombe Ave., and must be completed and returned by Feb. 9. Plochocki’s and Trustee William Lucchetti’s terms will be up in March. Election day is March 16.
