Baldwinsville officials approved the $4.233 million village budget for the fiscal year beginning March 1, 2010 and ending Feb. 28, 2011 at the Thursday Jan. 21 board meeting.
The overall budget increases spending by approximately $125,000 with an approximate $45,000 increase in the tax levy (amount to be raised through property taxes) from $1,840,277 in 2009 to $1,895,750 in 2010. The overall tax rate will remain the same as last year at $6.12 for every $1,000 of assessed value for property owned in the village of Baldwinsville (both in the towns of Lysander and Van Buren). A home assessed at $100,000 would pay roughly $612 in annual taxes (not including special districts such as sewer and water).
According to Mayor Joseph Saraceni, the New York state pension fund and sales tax revenues were major factors affecting the budget.
“The New York state pension fund was an enormous burden,” he said, noting a lot of increases were out of the village’s control. “This is a conservative budget focusing on needs only. We certainly did our best,” Saraceni said.
