In its return to the famous surroundings of Manley Field House, the Baldwinsville boys indoor track and field team did not disappoint.
A week of strong work climaxed Thursday night at the Bob Grieve Invitational, where the Bees earned 51 points and the team championship, just ahead of Tully, who was second with 45 points. Corcoran was third with 30 points.
Brian Kane proved particularly good on this night. He set a new season mark in the high jump, clearing 6 feet 6 inches to beat Henninger’s Cole King by two inches, before moving on to claim third place in the triple jump with an attempt of 40 feet 2 3/4 inches.
Rudy Sapp also earned a victory, in the 55-meter dash, earning a time of 6.69 seconds as Corcoran’s Jerry Adams (6.77 seconds) claimed the runner-up spot. Andrew Hoover would win the 55-meter hurdles over Liverpool’s Joe Spernyak, 8.26 seconds to 8.30.
Nate McCabe ran to third place in the 1,000-meter event in 2:41.05, Todd Mitchell took fourth in the 300-meter dash in 38.78 seconds. Shaun Thompson (9:51.68) and Adam Pacheck (9:55.34) were fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 3,200-meter run.
Also, the B’ville girls team picked up a few points, as Jaimee Balloni ran to fifth place in the 600-meter run (1:46.50) and Laura Farleman cleared 4 feet 8 inches for sixth place in the high jump.
Prior to this, the boys Bees came up with 27 points at last Monday night’s Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Relays, taking fourth place in a large, crowded field where 21 different teams got at least one point. Liverpool won with 53 points.
B’ville won the high jump, where Brian Kane cleared 6 feet 4 inches to lead all individuals. Kane and Jon Hingre had a combined 11 feet 6 inches of clearance, two inches better than Henninger.
Hingre also teamed up with Andrew Hoover for second place in the 55-meter hurdles in 18.07 seconds, behind Liverpool (17.21). Nate McCabe, Adam Pacheck, Shaun Thompson and Ethan Pacheck combined to finish third in the mile relay, four times adding up to 18:39.34. The Bees were also fifth in the 4×800 relay in 9:13.74 and sixth in the 4×400.
