Winter farmers market to be held in Caz

While some may think that farmers markets wrap up once winter arrives, that is not the case in Cazenovia.

A farmers market will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every third Saturday of the month through April at Dave’s Diner at Common Grounds.

Producers from the summer Cazenovia market were invited. Though some do not have products to sell in the winter, many are attending.

Frosty Morning Farm will offer dried herbs and soaps; Drover Hill Farm will bring their dry aged beef and pork, farm fresh eggs from Brick Farm and baked goods and mixes from Organically Hip. Other local producers will also attend. Heamour Farm will offer their hand-crafted cheeses, Full Quiver Farm has homemade breads, Cazenovia’s Primo and Mary’s Heritage salsas and pestos and Loomis Homesteads Maple products.

Agriculture has played a major role in Central New York for the past two centuries. A recent movement among area consumers has been to take advantage of local bounty through farmers markets.

The markets have provided fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and dairy products to urban and rural consumers.
