In the last meet of 2009, the Cazenovia indoor track and field teams rose near the top of the standings.
The girls Lakers were second in Tuesday’s Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Association event at Colgate University’s Sanford Field House, earning 81 points. Only Rome Free Academy, with 93 points, fared better.
One Laker victory came in the mile relay, where Emma Wolsey and Sarah Fellows had a total time of 12:30.03, more than four seconds ahead of runner-up Chittenango. Also, Hollie Marcelle and Meaghan Liddell dominated the 600-meter run, finishing second and third, respectively, as their times of 3:35.82 beat the field by more than five seconds.
Molly Woodworth and Christy Tainter combined to win the shot put, with throws that went a combined 54 feet 5 1/2 inches, six inches better than RFA, while Jillian Vogl and Audrey Bowers worked together for second place in the 200-meter dash in a combined 57.92 seconds.
Cazenovia was second in the pole vault, as Piper Gianforte and Michelle McGinnis combined to clear 14 feet. Grace Eberle and Gaby Nunez were second in the weight throw, with tosses adding up to 48 feet 1/4 inch. Margaret Wolsey and Alex Dolbear were second (7:32.34) in the 1,000-meter run.
Bowers and Paige Biviano were third in the long jump (29 feet 1 inch), with Marcelle and Jackie O’Sullivan third in the 800-meter run (5:29.48). Vogl and Katie Woodworth claimed third in the 55-meter dash (16.37 seconds).
As for the boys Lakers, it got 36 points to take sixth place among 14 entrants, with Utica Proctor (87 points) finishing on top.
Zach Bender and Forest Blanchard teamed up for third place in the 400-meter dash (1:57.44), with Bender also helping Dylan Muller finish fourth in the 200-meter dash.
Pat Dermody and Dan Pati teamed up for 10 points, as they were third in the 1,000-meter run in 5:52.44. Dermody also was third among individuals in the mile (4:55.06), as he and Pati taking fourth place overall in 10:05 flat.
The Lakers were also fourth in the pole vault, triple jump and high jump, and fifth in the weight throw and long jump, amounting to 16 of the team’s points.
