Caz wrestlers return at Tri-Valley meet

Though it had some quiet time in mid-December, the Cazenovia wrestling team made up for it with lots of activity prior to the holiday break.

The Lakers’ appearance in last weekend’s Tri-Valley Tournament at Whitesboro marked its first action since a 61-10 win over Solvay on Dec. 10.

Accordingly, the Lakers took 11th place in the 21-team field, right in the middle of the pack as it earned 84.5 points. Queensbury (Section II) edged Webster Schroeder (Section V), 172.5 points to 170.5, for the top spot.

Nick Petroff worked his way to the 96-pound championship match. He earned a technical fall over Zach McGuinness (Oneida) and beat New Hartford’s Seth Luscomb 8-1 to reach the finals, but lost the title match to Queensbury’s Tyler Wood 9-5.

Dylan Perry went 5-1 and took third place at 145 pounds, losing early but recovering to storm through the consolation bracket and beat Paul Parsons (Bainbridge-Guilford-Afton) with a third-period pin for that third spot.

Brad Nardella claimed fourth place at 103 pounds, losing a close consolation final to Eric Stevens (Holland Patent) 4-2, while Jose Wells secured fifth place at 119 pounds with a 5-1 decision over Queensbury’s Lucas Reyes. Clancy Kemp gained sixth place at 285 pounds. Wells went 4-2 as teammate Adam Lockwood (135 pounds) had a 3-2 mark without a placement.
