Canastota volleyball rallies past Sauquoit

Canastota’s girls volleyball team is still undefeated – though Sauquoit Valley offered one of the most serious challenges so far.

The Raiders actually lost the opening game to the Indians, but rebounded to prevail in four, improving its mark to 6-0 in the process.

That opening game saw Sauquoit completely unafraid of Canastota, executing all the important points down the stretch and prevailing 26-24.

Unfazed by this, the Raiders evened the match by rolling through the second game 25-14, then survived a tough 25-21 third game before claiming the fourth game 25-15.

Jessica Patterelli again led the way, earning 18 assists and nine kills. Denae Rinaldo had a team-best 14 kills, while Tracy O’Hearn got seven blocks and Hailey Chandler earned five blocks. Sam McCarthy picked up 24 digs to lead the Raider defense.

Also on Friday night, Hamilton swept Mount Markham 25-17, 25-18, 25-21, as Tiffany Jones-Maxwell picked up 11 kills and seven digs, plus two aces and two assists. Sam Martin had five kills, while Morgan Brooks earned eight digs and Kaitlyn Askew gained eight assists.
