To this point, the Skaneateles girls volleyball team has slid past all of the obstacles and taken a clear lead in the OHSL Liberty division.
A small hiccup arose in last Monday’s match at Solvay, where the Lakers fell behind early, but came back to beat the Bearcats in four games.
With a 2-1 mark and a hunger to pull off a big win against a marquee opponent, Solvay played an inspired opening game, prevailing 25-21.
But Skaneateles shook this off, and when it took the second game 25-19, it took full control. The third game produced a 25-10 rout, and the Lakers were also convincing in the fourth game, closing out the match 25-15.
Up front, Emily Wood earned nine kills and three blocks. Ryan Merle had six kills and four blocks, while Alexa Campanile earned five kills. Katherine Hill contributed three kills and three aces. Gabby Eckles had 13 assists and Destin VanTyle added seven assists. Solvay saw Shannon Slowik earn 10 kills and Calla Bakowski add 16 assists.
No rally was required in Wednesday night’s match against Hannibal, as the Lakers breezed to a 25-12, 25-12, 25-13 sweep of the Warriors.
Merle, with nine kills, and Campanile, with eight kills and four aces, both were active on the front line as Hill and Julianna Augustine each added four kills. Eckles put together 13 assists, four aces and two kills, while VanTyle picked up eight assists.
