Local track athletes compete in indoor meet

Many of the area’s indoor track and field teams were back at SUNY-Cortland on Saturday for the second of the CNY Indoor Track Association meets.

Jordan-Elbridge, competing in the afternoon session, was third in the boys event with 42 points, trailing only large-school powers Cicero-North Syracuse (94.5 points) and Liverpool (69 points).

Carlin Coomey won the 500-meter run in a time of 1:12.67, nearly three seconds ahead of Phoenix’s Alec Bray. Greg Bader took second place in the 800-meter run (2:09.12) as Cody Stanton was third in the mile in 4:50.21. J-E’s best relay finish was second in the 4×400 in 3:55.88 as Baldwinsville (3:52.90) took the top spot.

In the morning session at Cortland, West Genesee had 40 points and took fourth place in the boys race, with the girls Wildcats seventh as they earned 24 points.

Matt Ulrich won the 55-meter hurdles in 8.35 seconds, a full three-tenths of a second ahead of Jamesville-DeWitt’s Eric Semmel.

Zack Lafaver gave the WG boys a second-place finish in the 300-meter dash in 39.20 seconds, just behind Tully’s Bryan Smith (39.11 seconds). The Wildcats were second in the 4×200 relay (1:40.79), edged out by Corcoran (1:40.65), and also got second in the 4×400 relay in 4:00.94.

Moving to the girls side, Amy Hannahan pulled into second place in the 800-meter run in 2:33.24, while Katie Bott was third in the 500 in 1:24.99. Westhill’s Morgan Roach was third in the girls shot put with a toss of 29 feet 1 inch.

All this followed Marcellus faring well in the Dec. 5 Jack Morse Relays, where Mike Quercia, Ryan Manahan, Justin Garn and Tom Riccardi took the distance medley relay in 11:35.94, and the Mustangs were also second (3:57.35) in the 1,600 sprint medley.
