The Skaneateles Village Board was finally able to vote on a proposed three-way stop at Kelley and Fennell streets in the village during it’s Nov. 23 meeting.
Mayor Bob Green reiterated that he is against putting up additional stop signs along the Fennell Street corridor for several reasons, which he has stated in the past.
Trustee Marc Angelillo said he also was against the three-way stop because he never sees a lot of people crossing the street in that area and it encourages people to park in the P&C parking lot.
However, the three other board members felt differently.
“It’s almost open season for pedestrians down there,” said Trustee Sue Jones.
Trustee Tim Lynn said he feels Fennell Street is “pedestrian unfriendly.”
“I think we need to make the street more pedestrian friendly,” he said.
Trustee Kathryn Carlson has seen mothers with small children trying to cross the street in the Kelley Street area where a curb cut would allow safer passage.
According to Green, Police Chief Lloyd Perkins said there is no history of accidents at the intersection in the last five years.
Despite Green and Angelillo’s feelings that there is no need for a three-way stop, Carlson motioned to enact the local law. The law was approved in a 3-2 vote.
“This is the first time I’ve been on the right side of a 3-2 vote,” Lynn said.
