Back in its usual winning form, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls tennis team passed two more big tests before Monday’s showdown with Baldwinsville to run its win streak to 266 consecutive matches. At the end of this run, the Hornets faced West Genesee on Saturday, and paced by a trio of great singles efforts, F-M took out the Wildcats by a 6-1 margin. Allison Vizgaitis had a shutout, ripping Mackenzie Payne 6-0, 6-0. Carly Romano and Sienna Susko worked in equal ways, beating, respectively, Alexa Rahrle and Maranda Dowling by identical 6-1, 6-0 patterns. It proved more competitive in doubles, where Olivia Calancie and Lauren Schaefer lost in three sets to Nicole Bleko and Allie Theberge 6-4, 1-6, 7-5. Elsewhere, Maria Mintskovsky and Katie Muller toppled Lexie Myers and Anita Shetty 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. ALso, Rhiannon Iorio and Shelby Smith handled Jessica Bliss and Sara Polge 6-3, 6-3, with Ellen Choi and Meghan Muraco earning a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Karin Gasparini and Kate Alberts. As with West Genesee, the Hornets did give up a point in last Tuesday’s match against Auburn, but still beat the Maroons 6-1. That came in first singles, when Claire Minnoe, a favorite to go to the state tournament, beat Susko 6-3, 6-0, but the Hornets handled everything else with relative ease. Romano shut out Samantha Cadwallader 6-0, 6-0, while Mintskovsky earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Palak Patel. Smith and Iorio had a tough second set in doubles, but still beat Heidi VanBuskirk and Molly Brown 6-0, 6-4. Otherwise, the teams of Muller-Vizgaitis, Calancie-Schaefer and Choi-Muraco never lost more than one game in any set they played. The Hornets went on to handle Corcoran 7-0 on Thursday afternoon to run the win streak to 265. Susko and Vizgaitis both won 6-0, 6-0 singles matches, while Romano beat Aly Barrett 6-0, 6-1. Only Muller and Mintskovsky gave up games in singles, still beating Caity Moore and Emma Schmitt 6-2, 6-0.
